Contraception
If you are having sex, or considering having sex for the first time, you want to stay safe and avoid unwanted pregnancy. There are several methods of contraception to choose from.
Whatever contraceptive method you choose you should also consider using condoms for protection against sexually transmitted infections (STI's).
If you would like to get hold of free condoms, or have a chat to someone about the best form of contraception for you, see our list of friendly and confidential agencies by clicking on your borough below.
For more information about the different types of contraception available see the Family Planning Association's 'Contraception and Sexual Health Guide' at www.fpa.org.uk.
Emergency Contraception
(The Morning After Pill)
Have you had sex without using contraception? Did you forget to take your
pill, or did a condom
split during sex? Don't panic! Emergency
contraception (The Morning After Pill) is available to young people, and can prevent
pregnancy
in most cases if taken in time and should be taken as soon as possible after
having unprotected sex, no later
than 72 hours (3 days) after.
If it is 3 days or more since you had unprotected sex you may be able to have an emergency coil fitted.
